Following the success of December’s discussion Action versus Ambivalence at Core Gallery, Deptford, a new strand of AIR Activist events, discussions, planning sessions and talks will begin in February at New Gallery London.
Each meeting’s agenda will be shaped by the AIR membership. A draft agenda will be posted on the AIR Forum with comments and suggestions on points of discussion welcomed.
AIR members have already expressed interest in addressing issues such as the Artist’s Resale Right, the points-based visa system (incorporating the visiting artists and academics campaign), minimum fees for artists, pensions for artists and education cuts.
Meetings will take place at 6:30pm on:
Thursday 17th February
Monday 14th March
Monday 11th April
Monday 9th May
Who can attend?
AIR Activist meetings are open to both AIR members and non-AIR members. Also, you do not need to book a place at the meeting. The sessions are intended as open dialogue.
I do not live in London. How can I get involved?
Audio recordings will be made of each event and distributed to the wider membership. You can also follow live coverage of the meetings on Twitter and join the discussion using the tag #AIRactivists.
In addition to the London-based meetings, an announcement will be made shortly regarding AIR Activist meetings in the north-west, north-east, midlands and south-west. The geographical spread of our 15,500 strong membership is immense and the AIR Activist programme will reflect this diversity.
AIR Activists is recognised as a significant way of widening the knowledge and engagement of AIR members and creating a groundswell of ‘activism’ amongst the broader membership, so that their local, regional interests and environments and networks are an integral part of debates and campaigns.
